London is a fabulous place to live and work and I love it! It’s close to all the action! Politics, fashion, art, culture, religion and sports (premier league football clubs and and tennis at Wimbledon!) It’s heaven for an aspiring writer, there’s inspiration everywhere and I just want to soak it all in and write it all down, and stamp it with my own perspective.
London’s diverse, a collection of cultures, villages, a place at once of high culture, world-famous and then obscure, dingy and scary.
These contrasts fascinate me, as I have them myself: a London born West African with a british accent and an African name, a strong sense of identity and an appreciation of a world view that has no room for parochial complacency. A highly educated christian single parent, once married to a muslim, with a teenage son often mistaken for my brother and even on occasion for my lover!
I have a story to tell – about love, loss, pain and triumph; how I studied for a law degree as a single parent; my charity work with prisoners and young people; my faith in God and my political leanings and how I love to visit the National Portrait gallery.
I want to tell it all through commentary, so that one day, when I’m old and grey, I can look back and say, I wrote it all down.
